Rosemount High School's Stefanko named forensic league's Student of the Year
Honors are piling up for members of Rosemount High School's debate team.
Matt Stefanko has been named the Southern Minnesota National Forensic League District Student of the Year.
Stefanko, who along with policy debate partner Lisa Beard and the policy team of Ryan Kirkley and Wes Just swept South Suburban all-conference honors, will now be a candidate for the NFL's national Student of the Year award.
The district Student of the Year award goes to a student who demonstrates strong academic standards, dedication to speech and debate activities, engagement in the community and commitment to the value of the NFL.
The winner of the national award will be announced at the NFL national tournament, which will be held in Indianapolis in June.
Stefanko will be at the national tournament competing alongside Just, who subbed for Beard because of a scheduling conflict at the qualifying tournament. Stefanko and Beard have qualified for the national Debate Tournament of Champions to be held April 28-30 in Kentucky.
