Company offers unique classes

When Jia Brown started REACH Education Solutions, she had no idea what would become of the business. She just wanted to provide opportunities for kids like hers. Years later, it's her full time job and she offers classes in 16 communities including Rosemount.

REACH Education has offered classes through the city's parks and recreation program for several years.

Rosemount's parks and recreation director Dan Schultz said the programs are popular and usually well attended. He said the partnership with REACH allows the city to offer classes it normally wouldn't be able to, such as pre-school yoga.

"It works out real well," said Schultz.

Brown, who has a background in education, started REACH after seeing a need for education and enrichment opportunities. She was looking for innovative ways to teach her own children and thought others probably needed the same thing.

"I thought, there's got to be other parents going through the same thing," said Brown.

She started tutoring and expanded her offerings as people asked her for more. REACH was born in 2002.

The company strives to provide educational and enrichment opportunities that people want. Brown said what's popular in one community may not be in another, so they try to connect with the people of each community to see what's wanted.

The company's willingness to adapt has made them successful, Brown said. Brown and her instructors work to get to know their students so they can provide individualized training to assure success. Including Brown, REACH has six instructors.

Coming up REACH will offer three classes for kids over spring break. Kids can learn to perform magic tricks, to knit or how to cook. All three classes will be held March 25 at the Rosemount Community Center.
