District 196 looking for used instruments
Independent School District 196 band teachers are looking for gently used instruments for students in the district who cannot afford a band instrument.
This year, 110 donated instruments are being played by District 196 fifth graders. More than 30 middle school students who started on donated instruments last year continued to play in band at their middle school. Almost all of the instruments that were donated since the program began in March, 2007 are currently being played by District 196 students.
Preliminary estimates indicate the district will need an additional 40-50 instruments for students who would like to start band lessons this summer. There is a particular need for flutes and alto saxophones.
Anyone with an instrument to donate can bring it to Oak Ridge Elementary (4350 Johnny Cake Ridge Road, Eagan). Include name and phone number. We will put your instrument to good use.
Donations are tax deductible and donors will receive a receipt.
District bands also need cash donations to repair donated instruments and purchase supplies for the students who use donated instruments. Monetary donations may be sent to Valley Middle School, care of Cindy Hanson. Checks may be made out to District 196 Valley Middle School. Write "Band For All" in the memo line.
If you are not able to bring your donation to Oak Ridge contact Angela Wyatt (firstname.lastname@example.org or call 651-683-6969, ext. 92665) to make other arrangements for donation.
