Helicopter helps track down burglary suspects

Police have arrested two men in connection with an attempted burglary early April 2 at U-Pull R-Parts in Rosemount.

Rosemount police chief Eric Werner said police were called to the business at 2:20 a.m. after the men, ages 19 and 21, set off the business’s security alarm when they entered the fenced-in yard.

The suspects had fled by the time Rosemount police responded. A search party of officers from Hastings, Farmington and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department helped in the search. The Minnesota State Patrol also assisted in the search from the air, with the aid of one of its helicopters.

“It was a good, coordinated effort between several agencies,” Werner said.

The suspects were located and taken into custody and were placed in Dakota County jail. Both men were held without bail pending their first court appearances, which are scheduled for Friday, April 4.

Police were also called to U-Pull R-Parts in the early morning hours of March 30, Werner said. In that instance, officers were unable to locate suspects. Apple Valley and Farmington police and the state patrol helicopter unit aided in that search as well.

The alarm system at U-Pull R-Parts was helpful in both calls, Werner said.

“The business security system was a big help in identifying there was someone in their property,” he said. “We always appreciate that kind of help from the business community.”
