Police suspect murder-suicide in death of Rosemount couple

Rosemount police have identified two individuals found dead shortly before 6 p.m. Monday evening. Steven Lee Vasey Jr., 32,  and Melissa Vasey, 31, were found dead in their Rosemount apartment by Rosemount Police. The couple lived on the 2900 block of 146th St. W.

Police checked on the couple at the request of a family member.

Police chief Eric Werner said he believe the two died as result of a murder-suicide. Results from the Hennepin County Medical Examiners's office indicate that Steven Vasey suffered multiple gunshot wounds and Melissa suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There were no indications of a struggle between the couple. The couple did not have children.

"It's a sad incident," said Werner.

Werner said police had not been called to the residence before Monday.

The investigation into why the incident occurred is ongoing. The MInnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the case.

In cases of domestic violence, Werner encouraged residents to seek help before the situation escalates. There are a number of resources available through 360 Communities and the Lewis House in Eagan.
