Snow creates dangerous driving conditions Sunday

Blowing snow made for dangerous conditions Sunday on Dakota County roads.

Sunday’s snow, high winds and dropping temperatures have resulted in several road closures in southern Dakota County.

According to a dispatcher at the Dakota County Communications Center, Highway 3 north of the 195th Street roundabout and south of County Road 46 was closed by the Minnesota State Patrol just after 1 p.m. due to an accident. That section of Highway 3 remained closed at 5 p.m.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation describes conditions on Highway 3 and Highway 52 as hazardous. Drivers should expect heavy snow, white out conditions, and blowing and drifting snow.

Flagstaff Avenue south of 179th Street (the Lakeville border) to County Road 50 has also been closed until further notice.

According to the DCC dispatcher, Dakota County is pulling all plow trucks after dark. Plows will not be on the roads again until daylight Monday.

Farmington School District 192 and Rosemount Apple Valley Eagan School District 196 have cancelled classes for Monday, due to the severe weather conditions.
