Club will hold second Irish for a Day Soiree March 16

Sometimes it's nice to just have a relaxed evening, and that's what the Rosemount Rotary Club hopes to provide with their Irish for a Day Soiree. The event is the club's big fundraiser of the year, but unlike most galas they want it to be casual.

"It's casual. We want to create something that's fun for the community," said Erin Edlund, one of the event's organizers.

The 2013 Irish for a Day Soiree will begin at 5:30 p.m. March 16 at the Rosemount Community Center. It is the second annual fundraiser for the Rosemount Rotary Club.

Edlund said through the event the club tries to reflect Rosemount's Irish history, and what better way to do that than to plan a St. Patrick's Day celebration. In that spirit, the event will feature a traditional Irish meal catered by Las Tortillas Restaurant, entertainment from the Celtic band Legacy and Irish dancers from the Shamrock School of Irish Step Dance.

The club will conduct a raffle for prizes including a trip to Las Vegas, a grill and a Kindle Fire. There will also be a silent auction.

The event is the club's only fundraising event and the money raised supports the club in its efforts to help the community.

The club does a number of community projects each year. Edlund said a majority of their fundraising goes to support the club's STRIVE program, a mentorship effort to help high school students achieve academic success. Students who complete the program receive scholarships through the club.

The club also works with the 360 Communities Rosemount Family Resource Center, cleans up Central Park and participates in national Rotary programs including providing polio vaccinations around the world.

The club would like to take on some different projects in the community, but that takes money. Last year's Irish for a Day Soiree drew more than 200 people and raised more than $10,000 for the club. Edlund said the club hopes to have similar success this year.

The club is seeking silent auction items and sponsors for the event. Individuals or businesses interested in getting involved should email

Tickets are $40 per person. Tickets are available through any Rosemount Rotarian or by contacting Edlund either at 952-261-6133 or at
