Event will pay tribute to former soldiers

A Retiree Appreciation Day will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Rosemount National Guard Armory and Community Center.

CW4 Barb Fici said the retirees or about to be retirees from all branches of the armed forces and their families members can attend.

The focus of the event is to provide retirees updated information on entitlement programs. Fici said they will have a variety of speakers from the Social Security officer, Minnesota and Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, Tri Care and Delta Dental. Fici said they will also have a legislative update and information on long-term care.

There will be several retiree appreciation events this month throughout the Midwest. Fici said the one being held in Rosemount will cater to those living in Twin Cities and western Wisconsin.

"Retirees are really interested in what's going on with their benefits," said Fici.

The event is limited to 300 people and Fici said so far they have more than 200 registered. She encouraged people to register soon if they want to attend.

Registration forms must be mailed no later than Aug. 15. The registration form is available on the Fort McCoy public website at
