First book sale will benefit library

After several years of hard work, the Friends of the Robert Trail Library finally will get to help the library. The group will hold a book sale April 14-16 and the money raised through the event will go towards library needs.

It's been no small task getting the organization up and running but for FORT president Jo Gilbertson the toil has been worth it.

"To see it finally come to fruition is so great," said Gilbertson.

The Friends of the Robert Trail Library received its 501(C)3 designation last year. The volunteer group is dedicated to promoting literacy and lifelong learning through enhancing library services and resources. Gilbertson said the group hopes to do that by providing financial help for things like author visits or equipment costs.

Another cost for the group is to get a web site up and running. Gilbertson said to get a domain name that's easy and effective the group will have to pay.

"We'd love to have help with a web site," said Gilbertson.

The book sale will be the group's first fundraising effort. That too has been a lot of work. Gilbertson said the community has been generous with their donations and sorting and moving all the books for the sale has been a lot of work.

"It's been a laborious process, but I am looking forward to having a great crowd," said Gilbertson.

Leading up to the book sale, FORT collected as many books, CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs as possible. There were drop off boxes at area businesses. In addition, Boy Scouts went through some local neighborhoods collecting.

"We are grateful for the donations," said Gilbertson.

The book sale will be held April 14-16. A preview will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. April 14. Admission will be limited to members of FORT, or with a paid admittance or membership purchase of $5.

Gilbertson said they would be glad to add members to their group through the effort.

The official sale will begin at 10 a.m. April 15 and will run until 5 p.m. both days. Hardcover books will sell for $1 each. Paperbacks will be priced at 50 cents. CDs and DVDs will be $2. VHS will be $1 each.

There will be a bag sale from 3 to 5 p.m. April 16. Shoppers can buy a bag and fill it.

The group is taking on new members. First-year membership is $5. Membership forms can be found at the Robert Trail Library. FORT meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month.
