A Valentine's event with laughter for all

Anyone who's been single on Valentine's Day knows it can be a bummer. So this year instead of offering a couple's event Community of Hope Church decided to do a funny event.

The church will host Love, Laughter and Dessert from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 12. The event will feature Bob Stromberg from Triple Espresso and musician Jesse Matthews from Cedar Avenue.

While the event will be held in the church, pastor Jason Miller said it won't be an expressly Christian event.

"We just want it to be a great time to have some clean fun," said Miller.

According to his web site,, Stromberg has been entertaining audiences for more than 30 years. Miller said he is known for his clean comedy and fun storytelling.

Matthews, is the lead of the band Cedar Avenue with his wife Derrin. Playing solo he will perform covers of contemporary radio hits. Miller said he's a talented musician who puts on a good show.

When the church started planning the event, Miller said they thought about doing an event geared towards couples and then thought better of it.

"We want to open it up to everyone. It can be a romantic date or a night out with friends," said Miller.

The night will include dessert. While the menu hasn't finalized yet, Miller said they are planning on having dishes like cheesecake and chocolate covered strawberries. Coffee and punch will be served.

Miller said while some people like to think of church as a serious place, Community of Hope is a place to have fun.

"We are a community that enjoys laughter," said Miller.

There will be limited childcare available for the event. Miller said individuals hoping to take advantage of it need, to reserve their spaces early. Cost is $3 a child.

Cost for the show is $22.50. Tickets are available at Books of Hope bookstore, located in Community of Hope or online at Call 651-322-5679 for more information.
