City plans trail along Diamond Path

The city of Rosemount and Dakota County are teaming up to build a trail along the east side of Diamond Path from County Road 42 to Connemara Trail. Diamond Path is County State Aid Highway 33.

The trail will connect several other trails and make walking along Diamond Path easier but will take some cooperation from residents. The project will likely require easements through several private properties.

City engineer Andy Brotzler said the city won't know how many properties will be affected until the final plans and specifications have been finished but anticipates at least a couple.

Brotzler said the trail has been part of the city's plans for years. The city requested funding participation from the county this summer and in November learned that the project had been accepted for construction in 2012. The design and easement acquisitions have been approved for this year.

The estimated cost of the project is $305,030. The city will be responsible for 45 percent of the cost, which will be roughly $150,000.

Brotzler said the city's share will come from the pedestrian improvement fund in the public works operating budget for 2011 and 2012.
