Relay for life kickoff meeting is March 18

The Rosemount Relay for Life committee will have its team captain kick off meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 18 in the back room at Carbone's Pizza.

The meeting will provide information for people interested in having a team in the 2010 Rosemount Relay for Life event. At the meeting teams can register for the relay, pick up a team packet, learn about fundraising ideas and enter for the chance to win several door prizes.

In addition, chair Nancy Kelly said they will celebrate the American Cancer Society's mission to provide more birthdays by having a party.

The Relay for Life gives residents the chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease. Additionally the event raises money for the American Cancer Society, which uses the funds to research the disease and promote awareness.

In 2009 Rosemount's relay raise $30,000 for the cause. Kelly said they hope to do more good in 2010.

The 2010 Rosemount Relay for Life will take place June 25 at Rosemount High School. Kelly said she's happy to move the event back to Irish Stadium.

The last two relays have been held in Central Park because the track around Irish Stadium was being replaced. While they were able to host successful events at Central Park, Kelly said it will be good to be back at the high school.

"It just works out better at the high school," said Kelly.
