Sterner, Bills earn endorsements from their parties

The race is on. Phillip Sterner (DFL) and Kurt Bills (GOP) will go head to head for the 37 B State Representatives seat.

Both Sterner and Bills received endorsements from their respective parties over the weekend. Sterner, the incumbent, received the DFL endorsement Saturday during the DFL District 37 convention held at Rosemount Middle School. Also on Saturday, Bills received the GOP endorsement during the party's district convention at Scott Highland Middle School in Apple Valley.

Both men said they were pleased to receive their party's endorsements and are excited to start campaigning.

"Getting elected is the longest job interview you'll ever have," said Sterner of the process. This time around, though, he said it feels more like a "review."

Either way, November is a long way off and both men have a lot of ground to cover over the coming months.

Bills, an economics teacher at Rosemount High School and member of the Rosemount City Council, spent the last part of 2009 meeting voters and listening to their concerns before officially announcing his campaign in January. Bills said he hopes to get out and talk to more residents in the coming months.

Sterner said receiving the endorsement was the official kick off to his campaign and that he plans to hit the sidewalks to connect with people in the district.

Both men are Rosemount residents. Sterner owns an insurance agency in Apple Valley and is a former Rosemount City Council member.

Voters will go to the polls for the general election Nov. 2.
