January 17

City council open house

Rosemount residents are invited to meet the new members of the city's leadership during the city council's open house on Saturday, January 17.

The mayor and council members will greet residents from 9 to 11 a.m. at the council chambers in city hall, 2875 145th Street West. Among those attending will be newly elected council members Kurt Bills and Jeff Weisensel, and city administrator Dwight Johnson, who joined the staff in August.

The council will begin work in January to set its goals, which guide the city's staff. The goals also serve as a starting point for the process to set the 2010 budgets.

Residents can drop in at any time during the two-hour open house to have a one-on-one conversation with city officials. The mayor will offer a brief overview of major issues near the start of the event.

Tai Chi demo

A free Tai Chi Demonstration Class will be held from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Saturday Jan. 17 at the Rosemount Middle School, 3135 143rd St. No registration necessary. For more information visit or call 651-423-7920.

January 18

KC pancake breakfast

The Knights of Columbus will hold a pancake breakfast on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 8 a.m. to noon at the St. Joseph's School Gym in Rosemount. Adults cost $6, children (12 and under) $4 and families $20.

Babysitting clinic

Rosemount Parks and Recreation will offer the American Red Cross sponsored babysitting class Saturday, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This class will provide an opportunity for youth to prepare themselves for the responsibility of childcare, or you as a parent may wish to send your favorite student/babysitter to this informational class.

The class will cover leadership, safety and safe play, basic care and first aid. Participant's 11 years of age and older are encouraged to attend. Please bring a bag lunch, doll, blanket, diaper and bottle to the class. Register early, class is limited to 12 participants.

Cost is $65 per person and includes a handbook, instruction, and certificate of completion. The class will be held at the Rosemount Community Center in room 221.

January 20

Sno-Toppers meeting

The Rosemount Sno-Toppers meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the Rosemount American Legion back room.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. Two representatives from the Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association, MnUSA, will attend the meeting and answer questions. The club also will discuss where it wants to do its annual club ride. The ride will take place Feb. 11 through the 15. The meeting is open to the public.

The club, which grooms local trails and provides safety classes, is looking for new members. Anyone interested can contact Jerry Tompkins at 651-324-8608.

Zumba demo class

A free Zumba demonstration class will be held 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Rosemount Elementary School, 3155 144th St. W. No registration necessary. For more information visit or call 651-423-7920.

St. Joseph's open house

St. Joseph's School will host an open house Thursday, Jan. 22 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the old church building along Robert Trail.

January 26

Ozment open house/

Former 37B State Representative Dennis Ozment will hold an appreciation open house at the Rosemount VFW Post 9433 Monday, Jan. 26 from 4:30 to 9 p.m.

Friends, constituents and voters are encouraged to attend the thank you event that will include snacks, drinks and reminiscing. A cash bar will be available.

February 2

Archery class at Lighthouse

Lighthouse Community Church will offer an eight week archery class to those 10 and older starting Monday, Feb. 2.

Centershot Ministries is a program geared to teach students of all ages the life-skill of archery while sharing the Gospel at the same time. Equipment is provided.

Cost is $25 and includes instruction, class materials and a t-shirt.

February 8

St. Joseph's school registration

All families new to St. Joseph's School can register Sunday, Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. to noon at the new church. Families can register students for grades kindergarten through 8th.

Families registering for kindergarten should bring a copy of their child's birth certificate.
