Garett Bothun tries to find a path upfield during Saturday's win over Mounds View.

A couple of early touchdown passes, a stifling defense, and a late ball-control running game led the Irish to a 12-0 victory against Mounds View in the Class 5A state quarterfinals on Saturday night at Griffin Stadium in St. Paul.

Below, is a running recap of game action:

-- (FOURTH QUARTER, 3:09) Garrett Glaus got things started, and he imight have just finished them for the Rosemount football team. With Mounds View driving and with its best field position of the game, Glaus intercepted a pass to give Rosemount the ball 1-and-10 at the the 14-yard line with 3:09 left in the game. With the way the Irish have run the ball, it might be tough for Mounds View to get the two possessions it needs.

-- (FOURTH QUARTER, 4:37) The Irish lead 12-0 in the fourth quarter against Mounds View and the clock is ticking off quickly thanks to the Irish running game. Ben Lucius - in for quarterback Chase Vogler - has led the Rosemount rushing attack as the Irish have chewed up the game clock with a methodical running game.

-- (FOURTH QUARTER, 9:42) The Irish received the ball in scoring position after a Jack Pauly punt. The punt bounced and appeared to hit the Mounds View returner. Christian Willman picked up the ball and took it into the endzone, but officials conferred and gave Rosemount the ball 1-and-10 at the 18-yard line of the Mustangs.

-- (END OF THIRD QUARTER) The first drive led by Ben Lucius stalled after a penalty created a long fourth down. With Vogler still on the sideline - and with the Irish still not attempting a pass in the second half - Rosemount still leads 12-0 after three quarters. Vogler is on the sideline in a jacket. Joseph Broback, who left the game earlier, is also on the sideline in a jacket with his right arm in a sling.

-- (THIRD QUARTER, 4:23) Chase Vogler is missing from the lineup on the Irish's first offensive possesion of the second half. Junior Ben Lucius is in at quarterback and the Irish are using a full-house backfield and running right at the Mounds View defense. The strategy is working as Rosemount has driven inside the Mounds View territory and are at the 17-yard line now. Lucius has not attempted a pass, but on third down, Lucius' had a 17-yard carry for a first-down at the 17-yard line.

-- (THIRD QUARTER, 6:58) Mounds View took the ball into Rosemount territory, but on 4-and-2 from the 34-yard line the Irish got the stop for a turnover.

-- (START OF SECOND HALF) Mounds View gets the ball to start the second half.

-- (HALFTIME) Chase Vogler's two touchdown passes - to Zachary Vraa and Garrett Glaus - supplied the offense as Rosemount leads 12-0 at halftime against Mounds View. The Irish defense is proving to be stout once again, holding the Mustangs to just 75 total yards in the first half. The Irish have surrendered just 17 points - two touchdowns - in the playoffs at this point this season. Rosemount has 188 yards of offense in the first half.

-- (SECOND QUARTER, 7:40) The Chase Vogler to Zachary Vraa combination paid off again for the Rosemount football team. Vogler threw his second touchdown of the game, this time a 68-yarder to Vraa and the Irish now lead 12-0. Rosemount tried to two-point conversion but a Vogler pass fell incomplete.

-- (END OF FIRST QUARTER) After the first quarter, Rosemount leads 6-0. Garrett Bothun had a first-quarter interception.
