Boys track: Irish win another meet

Another meet. Another win.

On Friday, the Rosemount boys track team won the Rosemount Jim Sauer Invitational. The Irish had 158 points, while North St. Paul finished with 127.5 and Rochester Century with 112. There were 10 teams at the meet.

"The same theme continues: we just have a balanced team," coach Jay Hatleli said. "It makes it a whole lot easier to score points when you have a balanced team."

The Irish dominated the distance events again, with runners taking first and second in the 800 and in the 3,200.

"As always is going to be the case, our distance guys are as good as anybody," Hatleli said. "They score a lot of points for us. Those guys are versatile enough to run anything from the 3,200 down to the 4x400 relay."

There were a couple surprises at the meet, including Alex Bell's second-place finish in the triple jump.

"We threw him in there just so we could see what he could do," Hatleli said.

Earlier this season, the Irish won the Lake Conference relays. So, in two big meets so far, the Irish have two big wins.

"Everything has gone according to plan so far," Hatleli said. "We've had some success. We'd like to win the conference meet and the True Team sections. We just want to keep going and keep building on what we've got going."
