Lighthouse Christian Church will hold volunteer day

As a congregation, Lighthouse Christian Church aims to connect people with Jesus Christ. As part of that effort the church is getting out into the community and showing the love of God through care and kindness.

On May 19 the church will hold a volunteer day for its members. Members of the congregation will roll up their sleeves, get dirty and do some good in Rosemount and beyond.

"We want to get out there and be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. We want to live out our faith and care for people," said pastor Bill Goodwin.

Goodwin said the church teamed up with several organizations to provide volunteer opportunities for the daylong event which will include people of all ages.

As part of the event, members will feed homeless youth in St. Paul, work with the Pink Purse Project in Minneapolis, collect food for the food shelf, make sleeping mats for homeless and pick up garbage in Rosemount.

Since the event falls on the same day as Rosemount's community garage sale, Goodwin said they will also hold a rummage sale at the church that will benefit residents.

Volunteer day is not just a one-time thing, said Goodwin. As a church he hopes they can do more service projects in the community to show the love of Jesus to people in Rosemount and beyond.

"We have a growing heart for service. We want our people to get involved and do good things," said Goodwin.

So far Goodwin said Lighthouse members have stepped up to the challenge and are excited for the volunteer day.

"I think the congregation is excited for the opportunity to help," said Goodwin.
