October 3

RUMC health fair and blood drive

Rosemount United Methodist Church, 14770 Canada Ave, will hold a Red Cross Blood Drive and a health fair Saturday, Oct. 3.

The community is welcome and encouraged to attend.   

The blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome.

The RUMC health fair  will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get your blood pressure taken, your blood sugar checked, find out about H1N1 flu, healthy aging, community services for caregivers, talk to a pharmacist about medications or a chiropractor about an ache or pain and much more.

Family Oktoberfest

A Family Oktoberfest will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Rosemount American Legion, 14590 Burma W.

Fall clean-up day

A citywide clean-up day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Rosemount Public Works facility at 14455 Brazil Ave., north of the Rosemount City Hall. 

Teen writing discussion

Robert Trail Library will host fantasy author and graphic novelist, Chad Corrie from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 3. He will lead a discussion about writing - namely how to tell a tale from start to finish and what to do with it after that. Chad will look to help those interested get a good start, improve what they already have, and lead them to many helpful resources to keep them moving forward in future endeavors. This discussion is open to those who write in any genre and will cover a wide range of writing: short stories, novels, episodic fiction and graphic novels.

RHS soccer community night

Rosemount High School soccer is hosting homecoming/community night vs. Eastview Oct. 6 at Irish Stadium. The girls game will start at 5 p.m and the boys game at 7 p.m. Free admission to youth grades K-8 with a soccer t-shirt or jersey. Free goodie bags and temporary Irish soccer tattoos while supplies last.

Coffee with a cop

Officers of the Rosemount Police Department will be available to answer questions at coffee shops within the community from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

On Oct. 8 an officer will be at Morning Glory's, 14590 S. Robert Tr.

First State Bank 100th open house

The First State Bank of Rosemount will celebrate its 100th anniversary with an open house from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Project launch celebration

Dakota Future will have a project launch celebration for its Dakota County Intelligent Design Initiative, 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 9 at Dakota County Technical College.

Teen night

Rosemount youth in grades 6-8 during the 2009-10 school year who attend school in Rosemount or live within Rosemount boundaries are invited to attend the monthly, supervised teen nights at the Rosemount Community Center. Teen night is a safe environment where youth can socialize and interact with each other in a positive way. Activities include music, games and open gym.

Every participant must have a parent authorization/emergency contact form on file in order to attend teen night. A new form must be completed each school year.

Legion craft sale

Rosemount American Legion Auxiliary will have their annual craft and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 p.m. at the Legion hall in Rosemount. A variety of craft and baked goods will be available for sale.

Fire department open house

Rosemount residents can learn how to keep their families and homes safe during the fire department's open house 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 11.

Highlights include a demonstration of rescues by extrication from vehicle accidents. As part of the demonstration, the North Memorial air ambulance helicopter will arrive around 12:30 p.m.

The department will also offer demonstrations of air bags and tours of the fire station, trucks and the educational smoke house. Firefighters will serve up food and drink, and Sparky the Fire Dog will make a special appearance.

The open house will take place at Rosemount Fire Station No. 1, 14700 Shannon Parkway.

Divorce seminar for women

There will be a free seminar for women contemplating divorce Oct. 20 at the Edward Jones, 3420 150th St.

The seminar will include information on the top 10 issues when going through divorce proceedings. Evon Spangler, an attorney with the law firm Spangler and De Stefano, will provide legal information and Stacey Brown, from Edward Jones, will provide financial information.

Haunted Woods Trail

Rosemount's annual Haunted Woods Trail event will take place 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 24 in Central Park.

The trail will begin at the park and ride lot on Hwy. 3 (South Robert Trail), wind its way through Central Park, and exit onto 145th Street West.

Area volunteers will pass out candy. Donations will be accepted at the trail entrance.
