But there wasn't anything at Rosemount High School's Thursday afternoon holiday assembly likely to draw the kind of international scrutiny the school has been dealing with since its last pep fest.

Rosemount High School students chosen for U of M honor band

Eleven Rosemount High School musicians have been chosen for membership in the University of Minnesota High School Honor Band. The U of M has chosen the members of their high school honor band as the best high school musicians in the state. The Rosemount students auditioned along with several hundred others from around the state.

Shannon Park kindergarteners prepare for Thanksgiving with a feast

Kindergarten students at Shannon Park Elementary School got in the Thanksgiving mood Tuesday with a makeshift feast. The students learned lessons about making friends, then donned construction-paper hats and bonnets and native American-style belts for a feast of marshmallows, pretzels, crackers and apple cider.

Teachers could get extra development time

The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District is trying to carve out some extra time for teachers to get better at doing the job of teaching. School board members talked at a Monday night workshop about adding three additional half days per year of professional development time for teachers to work on grades and work with each other on items like best practices and curriculum alignment.

Rosemount Elementary School students honor veterans

Students and staff at Rosemount Elementary School held a flag-raising ceremony Friday morning to mark Veterans Day. Students gathered outside the school at the beginning of the day to hear prinicpal Tom Idstrom talk about veterans and their service. Then they raised the school's flag while fourth grade students sang America The Beautiful. The ceremony concluded with students saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Veterans greet students at Red Pine Elementary

Veterans from Rosemount and the surrounding area were on hand to greet students Friday morning at Red Pine Elementary School. The event, held as part of the school's Veterans Day activities, had the veterans shaking hands, giving high fives and otherwise helping students start their morning. Students and staff, in turn, thanked the veterans for their service.

Eagan's Huusko will fill school board vacancy After seven interviews Thursday night it took just one ballot for the District 196 School Board to choose a replacement for departed board member Kevin Sampers. Board members voted to name Eagan resident Gary Huusko to take over for Sampers, who left because of time commitments associated with starting a new business. He will attend his first meeting in November.
