Opinion: Online course will be a good option PressPass

Earlier this week the District 196 School Board took a first look at a proposed class that would blend classroom and online learning for some of the district’s most advanced students. The class is the first of its kind in the district, but if it goes forward we have a feeling it won’t be the last.

Kris Scallon feels like she was born to be a teacher, but she’s excited to try her hand at being a full-time administrator. Scallon came to Rosemount Elementary School as a fourth grade teacher seven years ago and six years ago took over as the school’s instructional assistant. On April 29 she was named principal at Eagan’s Oak Ridge Elementary School.

Rosemount High School named its 2009-10 Students of the Year last week. The students, selected from each of the curriculum areas at the school, were recognized April 26 at the Independent School District 196 School Board meeting.

Project puts ears to the test at RMS PressPass

Project puts ears to the test at RMS Seventh grade band students at Rosemount High School start each lesson with an activity that’s a little like the musical equivalent of Simon Says. A series of tones plays out over a speaker, and the corresponding notes are projected on a screen at the front of the room. As soon as the recording stops, the students play the notes back. From time to time, director Casey Clementson interrupts to ask students to identify the notes they’re playing.

Shannon Park DI students qualify for nationals Shannon Park Elementary in Rosemount sent a team of fifth grade girls to the Destination Imagination state tournament April 17 at Anoka High School. The team’s name is The SP DI-fference. The challenge they chose was Project Outreach, focusing on homeless animals.

Win or lose, though, all of the students agree this is the most fun they’ve ever had with a scholarship application.
