Opinion: Online course will be a good option 
Earlier this week the District 196 School Board took a first look at a proposed class that would blend classroom and online learning for some of the district’s most advanced students. The class is the first of its kind in the district, but if it goes forward we have a feeling it won’t be the last.

RES administrator takes principal job 
Kris Scallon feels like she was born to be a teacher, but she’s excited to try her hand at being a full-time administrator.
Scallon came to Rosemount Elementary School as a fourth grade teacher seven years ago and six years ago took over as the school’s instructional assistant. On April 29 she was named principal at Eagan’s Oak Ridge Elementary School.

Editorial: Keeping books in schools is the right choice 
Last week a group made up of District 196 teachers, parents and others voted to keep in district libraries a series of graphic novels one Apple Valley parent found objectionable. We believe it was the right choice.

School notes: RHS names Students of the Year 
Rosemount High School named its 2009-10 Students of the Year last week. The students, selected from each of the curriculum areas at the school, were recognized April 26 at the Independent School District 196 School Board meeting.

That’s why she got involved with the local chapter of the Minnesota Council of Gifted and Talented when she moved to Rosemount six years ago, and it’s why she’s involved again now as the group reorganizes itself after disappearing for a couple of years.
