There wasn't much offense in Rosemount's Section final football game against Stillwater. But for the Irish, there was just enough.
Rosemount went to Stillwater Friday night and beat the top-seeded Ponies 7-6 in a Class 6A crossover game that pitted teams from different sections against each other.
The clock rarely stopped running during the first three quarters of Friday night’s Section 3AAAAAA playoff opener between Lakeville South and Rosemount.
A scoreless first half that took just 42 minutes to complete was followed by a 20-minute third quarter as the two .500 South Suburban Conference teams kept the clock moving by combining for 11 punts and throwing just a handful of incompletions in the game’s first 14 possessions.
But something clicked for Rosemount when the No. 4 lit up under the Qtr. sign on the Irish Stadium scoreboard.
Prior Lake scored a touchdown with 29 seconds left in the second quarter to take the lead and added another score on its first drive of the second half en route to a 17-7 South Suburban Conference win Friday night at Irish Stadium.
