Floodwaters engorged by a 24-hour deluge of up to 10 inches crumbled roads and damaged homes and businesses in Duluth, Superior and surrounding areas on Wednesday and caused the drowning deaths of dozens of animals at the Lake Superior Zoo.
In a move that could conceivably bankrupt the city of Duluth, the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is asking a federal court to return the $75.5 million it has given the city since 1994 as part of its agreement to open the Fond-du-Luth Casino.

Minnesota News A Duluth man diagnosed with the AIDS virus has been charged with knowingly transferring a communicable disease to his former girlfriend. It’s believed to be the first such case charged in the city.
On Independence Day this summer, the Clelia II will slip into Duluth’s harbor and tie up near the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Then 100 passengers will be shuttled to the Great Lakes Aquarium, where they’ll go through a U.S. Customs check.
