Gymnastics: Murgic headed back to state in all-around, floor Heading into the Class 1A, Section 3 championships last week, the Rosemount gymnastics team had high hopes. The Irish also knew the going would be tough in a section that includes seven teams ranked in the state’s top 25. The section included No. 5 Lakeville North and No. 6 Eagan.

Gymnastics: Murgic caps off standout career at state meet Rosemount senior gymnast Katie Murgic fell on her opening vault at last week’s Class 2A state gymnastics meet. Preparing for her second and final vault, Murgic got a simple message from Irish coach Jason Passeri. The vault would be her final event as a Rosemount gymnast. “He told me, ‘This is your last vault ever. Don’t leave anything to regret. Land on your feet,’” Murgic recalled.

Irish gymnasts top Eden Prairie Rosemount gymnastics coach Jason Passeri finally got his wish last week, and it might be proving the longtime coach correct in his assumptions. Last week, Passeri said he was waiting for the Irish to put together their first complete meet. He was, “waiting for a big meet to happen.” A day later, Rosemount did just that in a 143.4-140.35 win against Farmington.

After enduring a close loss, the Rosemount gymnastics team might be better off just putting things in the past. The Irish lost 140.425-139.575 on Tuesday at Bloomington Jefferson. It was a tough loss to take. Rosemount had scored better than a depleted Jaguars squad just over a week earlier.

Rosemount gymnastics coach Jason Passeri isn’t usually one to temper expectations. If the coach knows the Irish are capable of doing something significant, he tends to share that opinion. Heading into the season, Passeri said his team has the talent to surpass the magic 140-point threshold. Yet, he felt Rosemount would likely fall in the middle 130-point range.

Rosemount gymnastics coach Jason Passeri often uses the 140-point mark as a reference point when judging his team’s potential. Last season, Passeri wasn’t expecting any 140-point team scores early, but then the Irish hit that total in just its fourth competition. Rosemount remained near or above the mark for the rest of the season.
