Forgive Rosemount girls hockey coach Tracy Cassano; she just isn’t ready to let the Irish’s loss in the section finals go quite yet. After finishing with the best record in 14 years for a Rosemount girls hockey team, the Irish can’t get past the season-ending 6-1 loss to Burnsville, one game away from the state tournament.

With a trip to the state tournament on the line, the Irish lost 6-1 to Burnsville in the Class 2A, Section 3 finals on Wednesday night at the Veteran’s Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.

The Rosemount High School girls hockey team is on a roll in the Section 3 playoffs. Three days after beating Park, 6-2, in the first round the Irish beat top seed Eagan, 5-1, at Veterans Memorial Arena in Inver Grove Heights.

Cassano preached for the Irish to keep working and believed the results would eventually take care of themselves. She knew with the way Rosemount was playing, the wins would come.

The Rosemount girls hockey team has lost three of its past four games after a pair of losses during the past week. Late last week, the Irish dropped a 4-2 decision at Lakeville North. On Tuesday it was a 5-3 loss at home to Eden Prairie.

Rosemount girls hockey coach Tracy Cassano has preached the importance of consistency to her squad. It’s been a point of contention at times. Whether it be game-to-game or period-to-period, Cassano just wants complete efforts from the Irish. The final scores haven’t been consistent.

After finishing up a 5-2 win against Apple Valley on Nov. 21, the Rosemount girls hockey team faced a stretch of nine days without games. The break allowed the Irish to contemplate an inconsistent beginning of the season in which they went 2-1-1. The holiday offered a bit of rest as well.

There was bound to be some bumps in the road and Rosemount has had to maneuver over some of those in the past two weeks.
