Girls basketball: Irish fall in first round of section 
From the first week of the season, Rosemount girls basketball coach Sam McDonald talked about his players’ character and perseverance.
McDonald thought his team handled an admittedly tough season as well as they could have, especially in dealing with close games and important second halves. The character of the Irish was on display this week in the Class 2A, Section 3 tournament and it almost had Rosemount earning another game this season.

It’s been a long time coming for the Rosemount girls basketball team.
The Irish’s success during the non-conference portion of the schedule has been well documented. They also started 1-1 in Lake Conference action.
Since beating Chaska on Jan. 8, it’s been a long dry spell. Rosemount had lost 12 straight conference games.

Rosemount girls basketball coach Sam McDonald knew things would be different once the Irish started to play games within the Lake Conference.
McDonald’s hope was his team could keep the early season momentum going until conference play. The Irish accomplished the first task by winning four straight games and eight of the first nine games this season.
The next objective would be dealing with the ultra-competitive Lake Conference.

When developing the schedule for the Rosemount girls basketball team, coaches and administration built in an early break for the Irish.
Rosemount had a heavy early schedule, which included the Hamline tournament, but after four games in the span of seven days, there was an eight-day period between games.
It’s a strategy Irish coach Sam McDonald likes to employ.
