Letter: Challenges demand long-range planning
The 2010 legislative session was scheduled to convene Feb. 4. Minnesota faces a $1.2 billion budget shortfall caused by the ongoing recession and an underlying structural imbalance in the state budget.
With limited resources, difficult decisions will need to be made to resolve the deficit and rebuild our economy – but with your help, I am prepared to make those decisions.

Sterner provides real leadership
With all of the serious issues confronting our state, we need credible leaders who will focus on the things that make a difference, and who won’t be distracted by politics and partisanship, even when baited by political opponents. That’s just what we have in Rep. Phil Sterner.

Thanks for help with Halloween walk
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rosemount Halloween Committee and the many dedicated, hard-working volunteers who donated their time and efforts to make the 2009 Haunted Woods Trail a huge success.

Buckle your kids up the right way
National Child Passenger Safety week runs Sept. 12–18, and serves as a reminder for parents with hectic, on-the-go schedules to stop rushing and start properly securing their vehicle’s most important cargo — their children. 83 percent of child restraints in use on Minnesota roads are used incorrectly.

Find a better time to water the plants
The hanging plants in downtown Rosemount are beautiful and the public works department does a good job maintaining them. But why, oh why does the department have to water the plants during rush hour in the morning?

Letter: Support from Irish football team was appreciated
This past weekend we participated in the Twin Cities Breast Cancer 3 Day. Approximately 2400 walkers and over 400 volunteer crew members raised over $6 million for breast cancer research and education by walking 20 miles a day for three days.

City’s practices are unfriendly to potential business owners
I am responding to mayor Bill Droste’s attempt to discredit Skylar Rekstad’s concern about the way Rosemount city staff and the city council prevent potential businesses from getting established in Rosemount.

City should act soon on arts center
There is a beautiful building owned by the city of Rosemount that could be the centerpiece of our newly redeveloped downtown, if our elected officials have the courage to act.

Mayor says city is committed to business
We have noted a lengthy letter from Skylar Rekstad objecting to the city’s new ordinance pertaining to dance clubs. Mr. Rekstad applied to open a dance club for 16- to 20-year-olds in Downtown Rosemount.

Letter: Sympathy for the city
I was reading this article (about the dispute between the city and vegetable-stand owner Tom Piekarski) today and while at first I found another example of a city’s government overstepping its bounds, as I continued reading I found I was increasingly sympathetic to it.

Letter: Ordinance is too restrictive, potential club owner says
Over the past eight months I have pursued a teen club and lounge. Upon learning my plans, the city decided to create an ordinance that requires businesses of this nature to obtain a license.

Letter: Enough, already, about eminent domain
Please, please, please, no more letters about eminent domain. I think we've all read enough. Let's move on, it's over, it's history.
