Letter: More taxes are not the answer

To the editor, I like a good debate, especially in an election year. There are many challenges facing our nation and our state and taxing people to no end is not the way to get us out of a jam.

Letter: Residents should determine debate

To the editor, Kurt Bills loves to state “facts” that seem legitimate up front, but on closer look, turn out to be more spin than substance.

Letter: Residents should determine debate PressPass

To the editor, Representative Phil Sterner and I agree with Deb Kaczmarek when she says voters in Rosemount and Apple Valley are entitled to a thorough exploration of the issues from candidates running for political office.

Letter: Support for the re-election of Phil Sterner PressPass

To the editor, As a resident of Apple Valley, I’m pleased to know the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association has endorsed Rep. Phil Sterner in his candidacy for office in the Minnesota House of Representatives. This endorsement is given without reservation to those individuals the association feels are the best candidates to deal with crime and public safety issues in the legislature.

Letter: Letter writer says Bills is too far right for Rosemount PressPass

To the editor, Recent letter writers have questioned why House candidate Kurt Bills would so warmly embrace the right-wing fringe endorsement of the Republican Liberty Caucus. I wonder too why the self-styled “Econ 101” candidate would welcome the endorsement of a group that wants to abolish all corporate and business taxes. Is this the foundation of Econ 101? If it is, it just doesn’t add up.

Letter: Eminent domain is still an option downtown PressPass

To the editor, I am writing to call attention to an incorrect statement by L.K. Woodruff in a July 29 letter to the editor titled, “Many factors to consider in important council vote.” I would also like to call to task Town Pages newspaper for printing the gross misstatement by L.K. Woodruff.

Thank you: Many have supported RAAA PressPass

To the editor, As a non-profit, the Rosemount Area Athletic Association is constantly in search of alternative funding sources to help keep registration and equipment costs in check. As our participant numbers continue to climb, we need to find new partners and rely upon old partners to provide funding sources to keep our registration fees manageable and competitive with nearby programs.

Letter: Many factors to consider in important council vote PressPass

To the editor, Rosemount is no longer a quiet little town of 8,000, out in the country. With our present population of 22,000 and growing, we are rapidly becoming a second tier suburb. This means much more thought and care are required when planning anything.

A call for substantive debates PressPass

To the editor, As a long-time Minnesota high school speech and debate coach, I’ve lamented the contrived, over-controlled formats of modern political debates. Frankly, those so-called debates do more to muddy the issues than to clarify them. When House 37B candidate Kurt Bills showed up at my door a couple of evenings ago, he informed me that he’s challenged Rep. Phil Sterner to a series of Lincoln-Douglas style debates. The time is certainly right for that kind of political discussion —where no time limits and no moderator can interfere with the thorough exploration of issues. We’ve got to get this election right. We voters can’t do our due diligence unless we have the chance to hear from our House candidates. Today’s problems are too big for one-minute speeches and 30-second rebuttals. Take up Kurt Bills’ challenge, Rep. Sterner. Let the debates begin! Deb Kaczmarek, Rosemount

Letter: Now is not the time for a levy PressPass

I read with great interest the article in last weeks Rosemount Town Pages that the District 196 Board is considering a levy to go before the voters of the district in November. I respectfully submit that now is not the time to ask voters for an increase in their taxes.

Letter: No room for negative politics PressPass

When I went to my mailbox this past weekend I was upset to find a nasty piece of campaign literature about our State Representative Phil Sterner. The large glossy postcard was full of negative half-truths and was put together by a group called the Minnesota Chamber Leadership Fund. It surprised me that they would attack one of their own, since I know Rep. Sterner is a longtime member of our local chamber and has done so much work for small businesses this year.

Letter: Know the facts in campaign debate PressPass

The 2010 campaign season is officially under way. In the months ahead, candidates for office will be sharing their ideas about how best to deal with the challenges facing Minnesota and asking you to make decisions that will affect the future of our state.

Letter: Making Rosemount pay for quiet PressPass

When I moved to west Rosemount, 27 years ago, trains were not an issue. When that area became fully developed, I moved to north Rosemount, 19 years ago. The trains quietly went through about three times per day, and tooted their horns briefly.
