Pharmacy deal should mean savings at jail

The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office will contract with Diamond Pharmacy Services for pharmaceutical services for inmates lodged in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings. The contract costs are estimated at about $269,000 for this year.

State cuts could hurt county budget

It is looking bad, and it is probably going to get worse. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s proposal to balance the state’s budget would have significant impact on Dakota County, finance director Matt Smith told the Dakota County Board of Commissioners Tuesday. The state must close an expected budget shortfall of $1.2 billion by the end of June.

Deputy will fill in for departing sheriff In the end there was no surprise appointment. At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners, on a unanimous vote, appointed Dakota County Chief Deputy Dave Bellows sheriff, replacing Don Gudmundson, whose resignation is effective Sunday. The board also officially accepted Gudmundson’s resignation.

Don Gudmundson plans to leave earlier than expected. The Dakota County Sheriff announced last September he would not seek a fifth term, choosing to retire at the end of 2010, but Gudmundson announced in a memo to the Dakota County Board of Commissioners last week he plans to leave office earlier – by the end of February.

Regional park is taking shape The woods off of Station Trail are quiet on a Tuesday morning. With fresh snow blanketing roads and clinging to branches, signs of recent activity are obvious. On the road, at least, they’re rare. Only a few tire tracks cut through several inches of fresh powder, and if you drive far enough there’s not even that. The road disappears beneath a frosty blanket.

Foreclosures were down in 2009 PressPass

The number of home foreclosures showed a significant decrease in Dakota County in 2009. It is the first decrease in numbers since 2000, according to information released this week by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office. Whether that downward trend will continue in 2010 is not known. Through the first 22 days of January, the sheriff’s office had scheduled 184 sales, which does not appear to be encouraging.
