Boys basketball: Irish fall short in section opener

There were no surprises awaiting the Rosemount boys basketball team in the first round of this season’s playoffs. The Irish received the No. 5 seed and faced No. 4 seed Eastview on Wednesday in the Class 4A, Section 3 tournament. The two teams met up twice during the regular season. The Lightning won 56-41 in the regular-season finale for both teams last week.

Rosemount man charged with felony assault

A violent argument between a Rosemount man and his wife has led to several felony assault charges against the man, 43-year-old Willie Earl Riley. The woman’s son called Rosemount police shortly before midnight Feb. 17 and said he could see Riley hitting and pushing his mother and could hear him threatening to kill her. Riley reportedly kicked in a locked door and grabbed his wife by the throat.

Irish swimmers take fifth at state

The Rosemount boys swimming and diving team scored 150.5 points to take fifth in last weekends Class AA state swimming and diving meet. Edina defended its team title with 307 points.

Girls basketball: Irish fall in first round of section

From the first week of the season, Rosemount girls basketball coach Sam McDonald talked about his players’ character and perseverance. McDonald thought his team handled an admittedly tough season as well as they could have, especially in dealing with close games and important second halves. The character of the Irish was on display this week in the Class 2A, Section 3 tournament and it almost had Rosemount earning another game this season.

Wrestling: Bothun, Sandoz third at section For Rosemount wrestling coach Brett Larson, the Irish results in the Class 2A, Section 3 individual tournament were very fitting. Rosemount failed to advance any wrestlers to this week’s state tournament. The Irish again showed well, but fell short in the end.

Hands on at the crime scene

Hands on at the crime scene The students in Leigh Anderson’s class get to dress up a lot more than their classmates at Rosemount High School. Since classes began last September they’ve acted as firemen, paramedics and police officers. They’ve pretended to give birth and they’ve used makeup to give themselves nasty-looking cuts and bruises.

Editorial: Pet rescue training is a good addition

There are probably some people who will read this week's story on Rosemount firefighters training to perform CPR on cats and dogs and think it's silly. Mouth to mouth for a dog? Really? There are almost certainly others who will read the same story and wonder what took so long.
