Stearn earns Eagle Scout awardSam Stearn, a Rosemount High School senior, earned the rank of Eagle Scout
Sam Stern, a Rosemount High School senior, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 458. The Troop is chartered by Gopher Resource Corporation in Eagan. Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Scouting. Less than 5 percent of all boys in Scouting achieve this rank.
Each Eagle candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and complete a service project that benefits a community, religious institution or school. Stern planned and completed a project to install pavers for bike racks at the entrance to Rosemount High School. This was part of a larger effort by the school to encourage bike ridership. He worked with Assistant Administrator Tim Conboy to create a project plan and submitted the plan to the Northern Star Boy Scout Council for approval. He then managed the project - raising donations, purchasing materials and solicited help from fellow Scouts and others to complete the project. Over 20 volunteers spent in excess of 200 hours working on the project.
Stern has served in numerous leadership positions in Troop 458. He has been honored by his fellow Scouts with membership in the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s national camping honor society. He is the son of Barbara and Jim Stern of Rosemount.
