Merger means more news, not less localThe combination of the Farmington Independent and the Rosemount Town Pages means readers will get more area news in addition to the local content they are used to
By this point you’ve probably noticed there is something different about your local paper. It’s bigger. Its layout has changed. And, oh yeah, there’s a whole new city’s worth of news in there.
In some ways, this is a big change. The Farmington Independent and Rosemount Town Pages you have come to know and — we hope — love have merged into this new creation we are calling the Farmington-Rosemount Independent Town Pages.
But in the most important ways things really aren’t that different. Because for all the new look, the new content, the slightly unweildy new name, the work that goes on behind the scenes to produce this newspaper each week is not going to change. At least not dramatically.
We still have the same staff in our office this week as we had last week. We will cover Farmington and Rosemount the same way we always have. We will be there for government meetings and community events, feature stories and breaking news. We care too much about Farmington and Rosemount to do it any other way.
In other words, if all you want is Farmington news or Rosemount news, it will be there for you. Feel free to ignore the additional content we are now publishing alongside it. If you’d like to know more about what’s going on a few miles down Highway 3, though, now you have access to the good work we have already been doing.
Our existing websites will still bring you exclusively local news at farmingtonindependent.com and rosemounttownpages.com.
This is not simply two newspapers smashed together, though. We hope combining our operations in this way will open the door to new opportunities in each of the cities we cover. It might take us some time to figure those out, but we believe they are there. In the meantime, we’d love to know what you think.
We will still bring you more news about your community than you will find anywhere else. That will never change. It may take us some time to figure out how it all fits together best. There may be a few bumps in the road. We’ll get there, though. And we look forward to continuing to bring you the news, whatever form it takes.
