Eagan came up with the final run in a game that was full of them last Tuesday in Rosemount.
The Wildcats closed with a 16-4 spurt to spoil the Irish’s Senior Night with a 46-41 victory at Irish Gym.
The Irish led 11-4 in the opening minutes, but Eagan used a charge late in the first half to even the score at 23-23 heading into the break. The visitors then went up 29-23 to open the second half, but the Irish answered with a 14-1 charge that gave them a seven-point lead with nine minutes to go.
“Then we went ice cold and Eagan made a few more plays on offense and got stops on defense down the stretch and we didn’t,” Rosemount coach Chris Orr said. “Our energy was outstanding for the whole game.”
Despite the loss, the Irish finished with a better shooting percentage and more field goals. The difference in the game ended up being at the free-throw line where Eagan made 10 of 12 shots and Rosemount didn’t have an attempt.
Hannah Grim led the home team with 12 points. Kaylie Hanson added eight points and three assists.
Senior Kaitlen Heitkamp grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Kalley McMenomy hauled down five.
Seniors Meghan Schuster, Sydney Newton and Hannah Halterman also suited up for the final home game.
Rosemount saw its losing streak extend to nine games two nights later in Lakeville when they were handed a 67-24 loss by 10th-ranked Lakeville North.
The Irish shot just 19 percent from the floor. Seven players accounted for the team’s seven field goals, including Grim and Ellie Vraa, who each scored six points.
Vraa added four rebounds.
The Panthers (17-7) shot 53 percent from the field and had a commanding 39-17 advantage on the glass.
“They beat us at every facet of the game for 36 minutes. It was just one of those nights,” Orr said.
The Irish (6-18) traveled to Burnsville Tuesday and close out the regular season tomorrow night at Apple Valley. They will open up the section tournament on the road next Wednesday.
