The District 196 School Board has set its calendars for the next two school year.
The board approved calendars for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years at a workshop meeting Monday after reviewing them at a meeting earlier this month.
Both calendars include the start of school on the day after Labor Day – Sept. 3 in 2013 and Sept. 2 in 2014. Both also include two elementary student assessment days prior to the start of the school year. Those days were added this year as a way to help teachers get a jump on understanding their students’ needs and abilities.
The 2013-14 calendar includes a Thanksgiving break Nov. 28 and 29, a winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3 and a spring break from March 24-28.
The 2014-15 calendar includes a Thanksgiving break Nov. 27 and 28, winter break Dec. 22 through Jan. 2 and spring break March 23-27.
Both years include a staff development day on the day before Thanksgiving.
School will end June 6 for elementary students and June 11 for high school and middle school students in 2014. It will end June 5 and June 10 in 2015.
Superintendent Jane Berenz told board members Monday she had heard no feedback about the calendar after it was introduced earlier in January. Board member Jackie Magnuson had heard from just one teacher concerned about the staff development days on the day before Thanksgiving.
