Facebook this, Twitter that, social networking sites are almost unavoidable in this day and time.
I’m not one to disparage social media sites due to how much time I waste on them, but there is one that is definitely worth my time. No, it is not finding out every detail of people’s lives on Facebook. No, it’s not getting realtime updates from people on Twitter. It’s collecting ideas, tips, recipes, and do-it-yourself projects on Pinterest.
Sorry, boys, Pinterest probably isn’t on your list of priorities. But girls, this one might just change how you spend your time on the Internet.
When I first heard of Pinterest, I was eager to get an account because of all the great things I had heard about it. I didn’t know what to expect. I eventually made one and a few hours later, I finally got off my computer. Yikes. It was almost overwhelming how many ideas there were. From knitting, to sewing, to cooking, to baking, to shopping, to dream houses, to party ideas, it’s all right there on one website. Even makeup, nails, hair, products, quotes, wedding ideas. Everything you could ever imagine and more. You can also see what your friends and relatives “pin” and do the same. It fits almost every woman’s personality.
You could say I’m a crafty or artsy person. I’d much rather do things myself than buy something from the store. I think it’s because that is the way I learned growing up.
Ask my mom how many times we have bought cookie dough from the store: never. We always make them from scratch, my grandma’s recipe. I’ve made multiple things off of Pinterest and don’t regret one. It saved me money and time and I definitely had fun doing it.
I finally feel like my time spent on the Internet is worthwhile when I’m on Pinterest, and it’s not often I say those words.
