Grant makes way for DCTC to partner with companyCollege will provide training to Materials Processing Corporation employees

A grant through the Minnesota Jobs Skills Partnership grant has made way for a partnership that will provide training to Materials Processing Corporation employees at Dakota County Technical College.
MPC helps businesses recycle and dispose of equipment. The company is headquartered in Mendota Height and has been in business since 1983. Director of human resources Jami Carson said the company is modifying its business model, moving from a recycling focus to full electronics lifecycle management services including preparing and refurbishing equipment for resale and reuse.
She said the transition meant that the company needed to change and improve how it trains employees. She contacted DCTC and the college worked with her to obtain the MJSP grant.
Through the $216,376 grant DCTC will conduct training in a number of areas including operator machine training, demanufacturing techniques, recycling techniques, parts recovery, hazardous materials identification and disposal, computer diagnostic software training and computer rebuilding, among others.
The partnership with DCTC made sense, Carson said, because of the college’s proximity to the company and because its programs match up with their needs. Carson said they will begin in earnest in early February.
MPC CEO David Kutoff said the company is excited for the partnership. “We will not only be improving our team’s skills, we will also be able to expand the professional services we provide to our customers. We are grateful for the support of DCTC and their commitment to the quality of business in Dakota County.”
DCTC Dean of Customized Training and Continuing Education Patrick McQuillan said DCTC is well-suited to help MPC grow its business.
“As MPC grows their business of refurbishing and recycling electronics, we are excited to provide specific technical training to their employees.”
DCTC’s Customized Training division specializes in offering training and consulting services to businesses in a variety of fields. Since 2000, the college has partnered with more than 60 businesses administering over $12 million in job skills grants.
