Winter reading program starts Feb. 1

There’s not much better than curling up with a good book on a cold winter’s day. And considering it’s mid-winter, there are a lot of days to spend curled up.

The Dakota County Library system will kick off its 12th annual Winter Jackets Adult Reading program Feb. 1. Robert Trail Librarian Linda Armstrong said she hopes adults will take an opportunity to participate in the month long reading initiative.

Winter Jackets is open to adults age 17 and up. The program encourages adults to read and then write reviews. Armstrong said review forms are simple and take mere moments to fill out. The library keeps the reviews for others to look at when they’re searching for a book.

Armstrong said participation in the program is generally good and she’s hopeful this year will keep up the trend. She said most of the participants are women and encouraged men to sign up to.

Throughout February a number of authors will make visits to libraries through the Dakota County Library system. Author Steven Derfler will speak about his book Israel’s Pharaoh, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Robert Trail Library.

Each week there will be a drawing for a basket of books with some other goodies added. The baskets are provided by the Dakota County Library Foundation. In addition, the Friends of the Robert Trail Library will sponsor a Grand Prize basket. The winner will be drawn from all entries that were not weekly winners.
