Gymnastics: Seventh-ranked Irish down Prior Lake

The Rosemount gymnastics team celebrated its debut at No. 7 in the Class 2A state rankings by defeating Prior Lake 138.125-129.425 in a South Suburban Conference meet last Thursday at Rosemount High School.
Rosemount finished first in all four events and Irish gymnasts finished 1-2-3 in the all-around competition. Josey Schlie set the pace with a score of 35.975 that included a first-place vault score of 9.325, a first-place uneven bars score of 8.9 and a first-place floor exercise score of 9.15.
Shannon McCoy won the balance beam with a 9.2 and placed second behind Schlie in the all-around with a score of 34.85. Abby Nelson was third in the all-around with a 33.65 that included a third-place vault score of 9.125, her first 9.0 of the season.
McCoy rounded out her effort with a fourth-place vault of 8.875 and a second-place floor routine score of 8.95.
Meghan Creese added a second-place 9.3 in the vault as the Irish came in 1-2-3-4 in the event. Rachel Schow rounded out a 1-2-3 finish in the floor exercise.
The Irish JV improved to 2-1 on the season with a season-high score of 128.1. Both teams were back in action Tuesday night at home against Bloomington Jefferson.
