Courtney Lerdon took over ownership of Shenanigan’s Pub in mid-November. The night before Thanksgiving, the Rosemount native had a high school reunion of sorts as the bar had its busiest night of the year.
“I had a blast,” Lerdon said of the evening.
Lerdon’s happy to be back running a business in his hometown and he’s got plans for the longtime establishment.
“I think this place has a lot of potential. There are a lot of things I want do with it,” said Lerdon.
Improvements can already be seen. Lerdon and his business partner, Kraig Oeltjenbruns, built a stage and have started bringing in live music on Saturdays. In the future, Lerdon said he hopes to have live music on Fridays as well.
Lerdon said he’s working on improving the menu. He has hired a daytime cook. Shenanigans serves food from 11 a.m. to midnight, including appetizers, gourmet-style subs, burgers and wraps.
Still coming, Lerdon said he wants to make a number of improvements to the building itself including new lighting in the bar, adding doors to the outdoor patio and adding larger windows. He also would like to get a new marquee sign outside the bar.
While the changes will come over time, Lerdon said it’s important to him to change the perception the bar has in the community. Over the last several years, a number of high profile incidents have occurred outside the bar, giving it a reputation Lerdon would like to avoid.
The previous owner worked with police to address some of the issues and Lerdon said he plans to do more, including hiring new security staff and working with police.
So far, he said, the reaction to him taking over the bar has been good and he hopes people in the community will come see the difference.
“I’m excited to get people back … to get the neighborhood back in here,” said Lerdon.
Since graduating from Rosemount High School in 1986, Lerdon has worked in the restaurant and bar business. He also co-owns Champions in Minneapolis.
Lerdon bought Shenanigan’s from Mike Herman. Lerdon said the opportunity was one of those things that just fell into place.
