Wrestling: Moeller leads Irish at Rumble on the Red

Sam Moeller’s seventh-place finish led Rosemount to 23rd place out of 65 varsity teams at the Rumble on the Red tournament last weekend at the Fargo Dome.
Moeller, ranked sixth in Class 3A at 170 pounds, won five out of seven matches over the two-day tournament. He opened with a first-round bye, and then advanced with two decisions and a technical fall before being bounced to the consolation bracket by eventual 182-pound champion Pretson Lehmann of West Fargo. Moeller came back to win the seventh-place match with a 7-6 decision, giving him a team-high 14.5 points.
The Irish finished tied for 23rd with Chaska-Chanhassen with 75 points. Albert Lea and West Fargo tied for the team title with 166.5 points apiece.
Payton Otterdahl was the Irish’s next leading scorer with 12 points. He won three times via pin and added two byes at 220 pounds.
Sam Rosa scored 11.5 points at 120 pounds where he advanced via bye, decision and technical fall before bowing out to eventual champion Jordan Shearer of West Fargo. Rosa finished with a record of 4-2 and also picked up his 100th career victory.
Kwame Owusu also went 4-2 at 132 pounds where he had a pin, two decisions and a sudden victory.
The Irish compete again tomorrow night in a South Suburban Conference JV-varsity doubleheader at Burnsville.
