Rosemount needed just eight events to clinch a victory over Burnsville in Friday’s South Suburban Conference meet at Burnsville High School.
The Irish finished 1-2-3 in four straight events and built an 89-35 lead in an eventual 89-73 triumph over the Blaze.
Burnsville led after one event, but Rosemount moved back ahead thanks to a first-place finish by Andrew Urness in the 200 freestyle. Ian Gardiner, Ben Peterson and John Drew followed with a 2-3-4 showing in the 200 individual medley to make it 25-21.
That’s when the Irish pulled away, taking the top three spots in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Sam Kendall led the way in the 50 freestyle, Gardiner set the pace in the 100 butterfly, Sheldon Hatlen won the 100 freestyle and Noah Peterson claimed the 500 freestyle.
Hatlen, Kendall, Urness and Kyle Bodine then teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay, pushing the Rosemount lead to 54 points through eight events.
Bodine, Gardiner, Urness and John Drew closed out the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The foursome of Gardiner, Hatlen, Sam Stern and Myles Higgs opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
The Irish are back at home Dec. 21 for a conference meet against Bloomington Jefferson at Rosemount Middle School.
