When the Boisclair Corporation took ownership of the Kidder Park apartments in 2008, the buildings were in major need of repair. Lori Boisclair said there were a lot of physical problems with the buildings and, frankly, they were ugly.
“They just were not constructed well,” said Boisclair.
Boisclair Corporation bought the property, which is located on Cimmaron Avenue, with the intent of improving the site but soon after the purchase the real estate market crashed.
The crash made it difficult to find financing, but in 2010 the company received funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and started improvements.
The apartments were rehabbed into one, two and three bedroom townhomes. In all the company remodeled nine buildings into 36 units of townhomes. The townhomes have loft-like living spaces with open floor plans, large bedrooms and eat-in kitchens and each unit has its own entrance. Additionally, the project included adding a community center, which Boisclair said the residents love.
In addition to the rehabbed buildings, Boisclair said the company did an overhaul of the landscaping on the property. They added green space and have the site professionally landscaped.
“The green space really enhances the quality of life,” said Boisclair.
Over the course of the constructions, Boisclair said most of the tenants stuck through the construction. She said they had to do some moving around but the transition went smoothly. The project was completed in December 2011.
“We love the project,” said Boisclair.
Boisclair said they delayed a ribbon cutting because her husband and business partner, Robert Boisclair, died in February 2011.
There will be a ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Park Place Town Homes Community Center. Boisclair said they want to use the event as a way to thank the people who worked on the project.
The ribbon cutting will include some light refreshments and a short presentation.
