Baker, Alex nominated for ExCEL AwardRosemount High School students Alison Baker and Jacob Alex are up for an award that recognizes high school juniors who show leadership qualities and are model citizens in their community.
Rosemount High School has nominated Alison Baker and Jacob Alex for the Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership Award.
Sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League, ExCEL is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors. Students who are active in fine arts and/or athletic activities, who show leadership qualities, and who are model citizens in their community are eligible for the award.
ExCEL Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process that involves league member schools and an independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota. Award recipients will be recognized on KMSP-TV during the girls’ and boys’ state hockey and basketball tournaments.
Baker is the daughter of Michael and Kathy Baker. She is an A honor roll student and maintains a GPA of 3.979. Baker is a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She is a member of the student council and has been involved in peer tutoring, the Respect Retreat and has served as a student ambassador. She is a four-year letter winner in tennis and has been a state tournament participant. She is the team captain and has been named Most Valuable, Rookie of the Year and Outstanding Academic Athlete. She has also received all-conference and all-conference honorable mention awards. She has also lettered in softball and was named Rookie of the Year. She is a letter winner in choir and has been a member of the Freshman Select, Women’s Ensemble and Chamber Singers and received All-State Choir honors. She has been in the cast of Onstage and has won three Superior scores at the choir festival. She has volunteered in the Adopt a Highway program along with Feed My Starving Children, blood drive, USTA tennis fundraiser and is a nursing home volunteer.
Jacob Alex is the son of Alex and Lath Kadavil. He is an A honor roll student with a 4.0 GPA and is ranked No. 1 in his class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. He is involved in student council and peer tutoring and serves as a student ambassador. Jacob is a letter winner in soccer and served as the team captain and earned the Most Dedicated and Outstanding Academic Athlete award. He has been named all-conference honorable mention and is a member of the All-Section Academic Team. Jacob has also been involved in track and field. He is involved in band at Rosemount High School. He is also on the varsity debate team and has earned the Most Improved Award along with First Speaker Award in a competition. He is also a member of the varsity speech team.
Alex volunteers his time to be on the Rosemount Youth Commission. He has been involved with Feed My Starving Children, Impact – One Rosemount, Youth Teaching Youth and has been a youth soccer coach. He is also involved at his church youth group serving as the treasurer.
“The ExCEL Award program is an excellent opportunity for high school juniors who have excelled to receive statewide recognition for their leadership and community service,” said Rosemount High School assistant principal Michael Manning.
