Christmas at the Steeple Center take 2RAAC members hope sticking with the same formula for this year's variety show will garner similar success

Last year’s Christmas at the Steeple Center was a sellout success, and the planners are not messing with a good thing. As the Rosemount Area Arts Council prepares to host its second annual variety show, they have stuck with the same formula for this year’s event.
The event will feature live music, dance, drama and comedy performances by various groups. Event chair Joanne Johnson said most of the acts are from the area.
“We’ve got a pretty cool show planned,” said Johnson.
Like last year multiple stages will be used so the acts will go on back to back. Johnson said there will be some returning acts including the Rosemount Community Band and Mayor Bill Droste reading the Night Before Christmas. There will also be some newcomers to the event including local bluegrass band Sawtooth.
“They kind of fall all over the map,” said Johnson of the performances.
While last year’s event went well, RAAC also learned a few lessons. RAAC member John Loch said last year the performance went over two hours, which was uncomfortable for some. He said they learned a lesson and will keep each performance to a two hour timeframe.
RAAC started the event last year. The brain child of RAAC president Jim Kotz, last year the event sold out two performances. The second performance was added after the first sold out quickly. Kotz said it was thrilling to have such a great first year and he hopes they can experience that again.
“It’s such a fun event for all of us,” said Kotz.
So far ticket sales are going well. Loch said they’ve had a number of people purchase tickets who said they heard about the event last year and wanted the chance to see it this year.
“We just know it’s going to be a good event,” said Loch.
Christmas at the Steeple Center will be held Dec. 1. There will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. and an evening performance at 7 p.m. In conjunction with the evening performance, there will be a Lighting of the Tree event at 6 p.m. in front of the Steeple Center.
Tickets for the matinee are $12 and the evening performance tickets are $15. Tickets are available on the web at
