Girls tennis: Irish advance to semisThe second-seeded Irish took on No. 3 Eastview Tuesday at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, with the winner likely advancing to face South Suburban champion and No. 1 seed Prior Lake in tonight’s section finals.
The Rosemount girls tennis team breezed through a pair of Section 3AA matches last week to advance through to the semifinals.
The second-seeded Irish took on No. 3 Eastview Tuesday at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, with the winner likely advancing to face South Suburban champion and No. 1 seed Prior Lake in tonight’s section finals.
“The semifinal should be a good match with Eastview. We had three matches that went three sets during conference play,” Rosemount coach Dana Beck said. “We are gearing up for the match and taking some time to practice on the indoor surface before Tuesday to get prepared for the change to the indoor environment and court surface.”
The Irish opened Section 3AA play with a 7-0 sweep of 15th-seeded Park of Cottage Grove last Tuesday.
Virginia Norder, Ally Baker and Rachel Hoffmann each won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and Emily Harrington overcame a slow start to pull away, 7-6, 6-3. All three Rosemount doubles teams won in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-0 shutout by Monica McDonald and Abby Kohagen at No. 1 doubles.
Seventh-seeded Henry Sibley offered a bit more of a challenge on Wednesday, forcing two doubles matches to third sets, but the Irish advanced with a 6-1 win.
Norder, Baker, Harrington and Hoffmann all won their singles matches in straight sets. Rachel Olson and Gretchen breezed at No. 2 singles and Kierstin and Kourtney Johnson held on 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 7-5 at No. 3 doubles.
