A 36-year-old man who was staying as a guest at a Rosemount home has been charged with sexually abusing one of his host’s daughters.

According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney’s office, Ernest Chouinard went into the bedroom of the 7-year-old girl early on the morning of Sept. 28. He got into her bed, kissed her head and put his hand in her “private” area, according to the complaint. The girl told police she twice told Chouinard to leave, but that he refused until her 12-year-old sister came into the room and told him to leave.

The girl’s sister told police she went into the room around 1:30 a.m. after she twice heard her sister say “get out.” She walked in and found Chouinard in the girl’s bed.

The girl told police that before she walked into the room she heard Chouinard talking to her sister in “baby talk.”

The girls’ mother told police Chouinard is a friend and she was allowing him to stay at her house for a few days.

If convicted on a felony charge of criminal sexual conduct Chouinard could face up to 25 years in jail and fines of up to $35,000.
