Girls swimming and diving: Irish beat Prior Lake

The Rosemount girls swimming and diving team won 8 of 12 events in securing a 92-89 South Suburban Conference meet victory over Prior Lake last Thursday.
Megan Wenman, Olvia Johnston and Katie Garrity were each part of three first-place finishes. Wenman and Johnston opened the meet by joining Claire Tolan and Madeline Ryan for a winning time of 1 minute, 53.64 seconds in the 200 medley relay. Wenman recovered in time to claim the 200 freestyle, just ahead of Tolan in second place, and Garrity and Johnston followed with a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle to give the Irish an early 29-17 lead.
The Irish added 1-2 finishes in the 1-meter dive and 100 butterfly as they extended their advantage to 59-35. Sawyer Murray and Claire Judeh led the way in the dive and Wenman and Abby Tesch set the pace in the 100 butterfly.
Garrity followed with a 23-second margin of victory in the 500 freestyle and returned an event later to join Johnston, Ryan and Grace Herron for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
Johnston scored her third gold in the 100 breaststroke.
Other second-place finishers were Herron in the 50 free, Ryan in the 100 free and Tolan in the 100 backstroke.
The Irish host Bloomington Kennedy tonight at RMS.
