Rosemount and Apple Valley are locked in a 6-6 defensive battle in tonight's South Suburban Conference season-opening football game in Apple Valley.

The Irish produced just 39 yards of offense in the first half, but tied the score thanks to a short field. The team had negative 13 total yards on its first three drives before Jeremy Macchitelli snagged an interception and returned it to the Apple Valley 20-yard line. After a roughing the passer penalty, Ali Al-Khatib ran the ball across the goal line from six yards out to make it 6-6.

The Eagles started their second drive in Irish territory after a 16-yard punt midway through the first quarter. A play later, Steven Wilson caught a 44-yard bomb down the left sideline for a touchdown.

The Irish defense forced Apple Valley into three-and-outs on all three of its second quarter drives.

Check back later for more updates from Apple Valley.
