It came down to sudden death but for one Rosemount golfer his season continues. Jake Sweetman qualified for the state tournament after beating out two other players in a three-hole shoot out including his teammate and best friend Luke Gillett.
“It was great,” said coach Kyle Fredrickson.
While the goal was to qualify for state as a team, Fredrickson said he is proud of his team’s performance at the 3AAA Section Tournament. The team came in fourth at Bunker Hills. In particular Fredrickson said he is really impressed with the way the freshman on the team stepped up.
“I’m really proud of the three freshman,” said Fredrickson.
Sweetman shot a 78 Friday. Josh Doyle followed with an 82; Gillett shot 83; Cody Schultz 86; Travis Parker 91 and Ryan Sword finished the pack with a 92.
The team qualified for the second round of the section tournament on Tuesday. Going into Friday the Irish were tied with Woodbury at 322. During the second round Rosemount pulled ahead solidifying their fourth place finish. Eagan won the Class 3A Section, East Ridge came in second followed by Hastings and then Rosemount.
Going forward Fredrickson said the young team has a strong foundation and he’s excited to see what they can do in the coming years. Fredrickson said all the players gave it a good effort and overall he’s happy with the overall season.
The Minnesota State Tournament will be held June 12-13 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
