RHS student wins national writing award

Alexandra McLaughlin won a prize for her submission to the Letters about Literature writing contest

A letter written by Rosemount High School senior Alexandra McLaughlin received a national award and endowed the Robert Trail Library with a $10,000 grant.

McLaughlin submitted a letter to the Letters about Literature writing contest. The contest is a promotion put on by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.More than 70,000 young readers participated in the contest according to the contest's website.

McLaughlin wrote her letter to Tim O'Brien, a Minnesota author who wrote "The Things They Carried".

Each winner nominates a library to receive a grant and McLaughlin nominated the Robert Trail Library. The grant can be used for materials for young readers or to support author visits and storytelling programs.
