Filing for city council seats open

Two city council seats will be up for election this fall. Residents can file their candidacy at Rosemount City Hall through June 5.

Filing for two Rosemount city council seats will open May 22. The seats are currently held by Matt Kearney and Jeff Weisensel.

Resident can file for the four-year seats through June 5. If more than four people file for candidacy than a primary will be held Aug. 14. Candidates have until June 7 to withdraw. The General Election will be Nov. 6.

City clerk Amy Domeier said residents must file their candidacy in person at city hall, 2875 145th St. City hall is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $5.

To run for Rosemount City Council residents must be 21 years-old by time they take office. Candidates must have lived in Rosemount for at least 30 days and be eligible to vote.

The council is made up of four members and the mayor. The council meets at 7:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Additionally the council meets for work sessions at 6:30 p.m. on the Wednesdays between meetings. Special meetings are occasionally convened.
