After being swept in singles play by Lakeville North on Tuesday afternoon, the Rosemount boys tennis team used a singles sweep of its own to take a 6-1 South Suburban Conference match from Lakeville South Thursday in Rosemount.
With state-ranked No. 1 singles player Andreas Dinkelmeyer still out due to injury, the rest of the singles lineup was forced to play up a spot. The transition period was difficult as the Irish lost seven of eight singles matches during losses to Red Wing and North early in the week, but players started to settle in against South.
Will Holcomb set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 1 singles. Sean Hatlen (6-2, 6-3) and Anshul Bharath (6-4, 6-2) added straight set victories. Jordan Randall rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win to complete the singles sweep.
The Irish took two out of three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Connor McGahn and Stu Hatlen rolled 6-1 and 6-2. Grayson Freking and Taji Onesirosan teamed up for a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 2 doubles.
The doubles team of Matt Simmering and Jon Duff supplied the Irish’s lone victory last Tuesday against Lakeville North.
“We definitely changed our mindset going into the Lakeville South match and we came out with a victory,” Rosemount coach Dana Beck said. “We are hoping Andreas will be back within the next week of play as we have four matches this week.”
The Irish took on Prior Lake Tuesday, Hastings on Wednesday and are back in action today when they travel to Apple Valley for a South Suburban Conference match.
